It is vital for the smooth and efficient running of Portfolio Software that we have formal internal processes. Processes enable us to deliver a quality service in all we do. Our processes are not static, we continually re-assess them to ensure they remain fit for purpose which means they continue to evolve.

All our teams contribute to the evolution of our processes, we value feedback both internally and from our clients. All comments received, good or bad help make Portfolio better.

Development Methodologies

Portfolio is skilled in a variety of development methodologies; iterative, spiral and waterfall. Our teams are skilled in the following methodologies (plus a few of the more obscure ones), SCRUM, MSF, RUP, DSDM, SSADM, Agile and XP. We tend not to prescribe a specific methodology, all have good and bad points so we generally take the best bits from each as determined by each particular project.

Some of our clients do require that we follow an individual methodology or their own which is great, our teams have formal and practical experience so we work closely with each of our clients to ensure we deliver to and in the format that is expected.

Management Methodologies

In terms of management methodologies we can use those prescribed by the client or will generally use Prince2 or DSDM.

Bug Tracking

All software projects require a mechanism by which software bugs can be managed and assigned. Portfolio can make available our bug tracking software to the client, alternately we can use those tools prescribed by the client.

Source Control

We use both VSS and Subversion to manage all our source.

Change Control

Portfolio uses Change control procedure to manage change within a project. This provides clarity and visibility to the impact of change within the development cycle.

Document Storage

All documentation associated with a client project is stored on secure servers, all transmission to and from these servers is encypted before transmission.

Project Management

Portfolio generally uses Microsoft Project to track project progress. We also use our own Tracking software and can make this available to clients should this help to monitor progress against tasks.
